Information: This Client wished to explore two separate design options for extending and refurbishing his property. The first to study what additional space could be gained by extending the upper floor of the house.

The necessary Consents were obtained for the second design option and the Client has since finished the internal reconfigurations, the photos of which can be viewed opposite.

Information:The Client having purchased a unique single storey timber kit house, was looking to extend their living accommodation, whilst rationalising the existing internal layout.

The structural nature of the existing premises did not lend itself to extend upwards therefore we have looked at two options of either bridging over the existing house with a steel structure, or creating an extension to the side of the house.

Information: The brief for architecture gh was that the client wished to convert their attic into usable space. This involved creating a stair access whilst minimising disruption to the period features of the house.

The chosen option was a novel solution of the stair rising between existing large bedrooms.

Information: The Client’s brief is to provide additional bedroom and living space to their existing Victorian House. We are exploring an attic conversion in tandem with a new rear extension that aims to create a new bedroom upstairs and an open plan informal living, dining, kitchen space downstairs. The proposal also endeavours to maximise views to the rear garden whilst capturing as much daylight as possible.

The Client is keen to minimise the loss of distinct internal character of the existing house, therefore we have created new spaces that have minimal intrusion on the house. The 3d model images to the right investigate the internal spaces created, as it was important to maintain the sense of scale and light that currently exists. We are continuing to work closely with the Client to ensure we achieve the correct feel for their project aspirations.

Information: Our Client was keen to rationalise their flat to provide a dedicated kitchen/dining space. The flat was somewhat over-complicated with small cupboard spaces being used as a cooking area, or store rooms. We proposed a number of design options ultimately simplifying the plan by moving the bathroom into the hall recess thus freeing up the space for a good sized kitchen/dining.

The Client is pushing on with building work and we are pleased they are very happy with the final design proposal.

Information: architecture gh are working closely with the Client to review options for extending the current house accommodation to provide new informal living space opening up to the rear garden, whilst providing additional bedroom space.

We are investigating two possible solutions, the first a single storey extension, and the second, a two storey extension, which could be phased to be built in two separate stages. Both will be cost analysed to ensure the budget aspirations are met. The single storey option has been redesigned and Planning Approval received.

Completed through a self build the Client is very happy with the final layout and improvement to their existing house.
